Finistere was founded in 2005 by entrepreneurs.  We get it. And we know what it takes to get there. We focus on asking, Why not?  And we partner with the creative thinkers, the dreamers- the entrepreneurs, to build disruptive companies changing modern agriculture.

Finistere’s team has founded and invested in some of the most successful AgTech companies of the last quarter of a century. We have over 75 years of operating experience in agricultural technology companies, both large and small. We know what it takes to win and we are active collaborators helping guide companies through each stage of growth.

What we look for

We invest in private companies that are doing what others would say is impossible across the agricultural and food value chains.  We focus on three investment areas: Life Science, IT and Sustainability. We invest across the company lifecycle but aren’t afraid to get in early. Regardless of stage, we look for the following 4 key elements in the companies we partner with:

1. A great entrepreneurial team

2. An unfair advantage (Disruption: intellectual property, network effects, relationships)

3. A tractable market (predominantly we are focused on the USA)

4. The potential to build a large company

“Finistere has deep knowledge of agriculture and technologies transforming the sector. The team’s track record of mentoring early stage startups made them a perfect partner for Kapyon and was key to getting ZeaKal off the ground.”

-Han Chen, CEO
Partnered, 2013

“Finistere is a partner with a long-term view, which is critical for SGB as we domesticate a new crop.  Most importantly, Finistere is a team with integrity who is there to support you through the ups and downs of building a business.”

-Kirk Haney, Founding CEO
Partnered, 2012

“Finistere cares about supporting the entrepreneur and helping create value. They were an invaluable partner as we built Athenix into one of Ag Biotech’s great successes. Finistere is a partner I would recommend other entrepreneurs bring with them on their journey.”

-Mike Koziel, Founding CEO
